This chores game pays off BIG when it comes to tackling disorder. I love a challenge that gets me moving and offers me small wins, but this time I am not settling for measly returns. Similar to Rock Around the House and Company’s Coming, this game involves going room to room in your home. You’re moving quickly and getting BIG things done. And I have a theory: You’re going to feel pretty big-bang-dang good about it. How it works Pick a room to start in. In each room, you'll decide what specific task is going to give you the biggest bang for your buck. Your buck (time, attention and effort) is valuable—spend it wisely, my friends. In the kitchen, it might be doing the dishes or clearing the counters. In the bedroom, maybe it’s making the bed or putting away clothes, or … maybe there’s something else you have in mind, if you know what I am saying. RYC is all about making chores more fun, so you have my permission and blessing. (Like you were waiting for that.) OK, I’ve digressed to a place that’s made me slightly uncomfortable. Moving right along … In the living room, you could dust, declutter, or maybe you and the vacuum have been spending time apart. In each space, ask yourself what’s going to make the most difference to your state of mind or the state of your disorder. Pressed for time? Do one quick orbit of your world. Or maybe you’re feeling super energized by your first round. Go for another big-bang spin. Yep, you’re someone who does BIG things. What I like about this game:
I solemnly swear that I am up to no goodConfession time: I was really rocking my 2019 The Sorting Hat Challenge. I was busting clutter like a wizard. I crushed seven weeks of challenges drawn from my lucky Irish hat. Then I pulled something that I've yet to sort out week after week: My linen closet. I wrote two paragraphs explaining all my very compelling reasons for failing. Blah, blah, blah. No one cares, Margie, and besides, you own no actual linen. Still, I am determined that this isn't the end of the story. I am coming for you, closet of chaos, with every wacky strategy I have. Rocks. Dice. Streaks. Pick-up games. Whatever it takes. Or maybe I'll just gut the poor thing and buy all new stuff. Take that, you old cesspool of dog towels, poorly folded sheets and lost hopes. To Bed, Bath ... and BEYOND!
